James Culleton Returns to Folk Roots with New Album Love Lasts Forever
Available April 8, 2026. Album/Vinyl release on April 8th, 2026 at the St.Norbert Arts Centre, 6pm-9pm, Live Performance.
Winnipeg-based folk musician and visual artist James Culleton returns in 2026 with Love Lasts Forever, a deeply personal collection of songs exploring love, loss, memory, and resilience. Marking his 13th studio album — and his first adult folk release following five children’s records — the 11-song, 43-minute project is a heartfelt return to his early songwriting roots.
Many of the songs on Love Lasts Forever were inspired by stories Culleton gathered while touring Manitoba with the Home Routes concert series. From intimate living rooms to prairie towns, real-life encounters and listening shaped an album grounded in community storytelling and lived experience.
The album travels across Manitoba both geographically and emotionally. A murder ballad set in Cartwright captures prairie noir storytelling, while another song traces the life of a carpenter working in the mines of Flin Flon. Environmental themes surface in “Plastic” and “Bigger Than Me,” songs that wrestle with climate anxiety while pointing toward individual responsibility and hope.
“Johnny Spence,” written by the late Dr. Ron Maier — a close friend of Culleton’s who passed away in 2025 — is a fictional story inspired by Maier’s experiences as an emergency room physician.
Recorded in Moncton, New Brunswick at Benoit Morier’s Studio JTV, the album blends contemporary folk and roots traditions with narrative-driven songwriting. The title track, “Love Lasts Forever,” reflects on the loss of Culleton’s family members over the years and the emotional experience of selling the family home — ultimately affirming that love endures beyond physical spaces.
The album features performances by Grant Siemens, Benoit Morier, and James Culleton, with Culleton on lead vocals and backing vocals by Andrina Turenne.
Culleton was recently nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for his previous album, Superfolk, further establishing his place within Canada’s contemporary folk landscape.
With Love Lasts Forever, James Culleton delivers a record rooted in prairie storytelling — intimate, reflective, and unmistakably human.
